Letter to the Network- November, 2004

Winter wakens, earth is shaken,
Starlight kindles in the dark;
May the chill heart, unforsaken,
Brighten at this warm soul's spark.

(Celtic blessing for winter)

Dear Sisters in the Saskatchewan Christian Feminist Network:

My soul is still warmed by memories of our November vent gathering at PCTC - Calling Lakes Centre. Our theme was taken from a quotation of Audre Lourde "Who are you and are you doing your work?" Our thanks to the planners: Laura Balas, Laura Fouhse, barb janes, Robin Osborne and Carol Stevenson Seller. Your creative energy opened new doors for all of us. And thank you too to all the participants, for sharing in the fun and laughter, spirited music, profound thoughts, great wisdom, playful moments and deepening of community.

Planning for two future events in now underway. The team for the 2005 November Event will be Helen Mooney, Virginia Sisson, Robin Osborne, and perhaps others as they add to the group. The dates are November 11-14, 2005 at PCTC - Calling Lakes Centre. You will be receiving more information about this event in the coming months.

In 2006, it will be 25 years since the first "several days long" event was planned for and attended by women who became some of the first members of the Saskatchewan Christian Feminist Network. Several women at this year's event started to dream of planning a 2006 November Event with a focus on "where have we come from? Where are we going?" as feminists...as Christian feminists..as women of Spirit. Sally Boyle, Marilee Iverson and Catherine Barnsley have agreed to be the nucleus of a planning team and will add more women to that team. This event will draw on the rich heritage of feminisms, Christian feminism and other feminist Spiritualities that have been part of the second and third waves of feminism and the multiple perspectives that are drawing us forward into our futures. They welcome your ideas for such an event! The dates are November 8-12, 2006.

Isn't it wonderful to have two great events to anticipate?

International Women's Day is March 8, 2005. That seems a long way off, but if you would like to hold an IWD event and would like to receive some government funding for it, your application must be in by December 10, 2004. If you would like to receive an application form, contact Pam at SCFN Info and she will forward one to you.

Have you renewed your subscription to Unbeaten Paths and your membership in the Saskatchewan Christian Feminist Network for 2005? Subscription forms are available from Pam at SCFN Membership. Have you ever wondered about the sources for Unbeaten Paths? Our editorial team subscribes to (and reads!) ten publications and chooses among the articles there the ones that they think will be most relevant to us. These journals are costly (some as much as $60 per year). Unbeaten Paths subscription rates do not cover the full cost of producing it, so if you are able to give a donation in addition to the cost of your subscription, that would be welcome.

Again, COG's membership is changing. We bid a sad farewell to Helen Mooney, a long time member and wise woman on COG (Consultative Overview Group). She will be deeply missed - thank you, Helen, for all you have give to COG over the years. COG is now looking for a new member, and the special insight and perspective she will bring. If you would like that new member to be you, or if you would like to suggest someone you know, please contact Mary at SCFN Info

As the days grow colder and the nights longer, may the warmth of this community of women bring you light and comfort.

for COG,

Ruth Card
