Letter to the Network- September, 2007

Dear Women in the Saskatchewan Feminist Network:

As I walked this morning, on a dull gray windy day, I noticed so many signs of fall are gathering around us. A flock of geese flew over talking away to one another as they landed in a field close for their breakfast. The leaves on the ash trees are ablaze in golds and reds contrasting with the poplar trees that are still clothed in green. The fields of grain whether harvested or not are lovely in shades of golden splendor. May each of you enjoy blessings that this harvest season brings.

COG met at September 7 and 8 in Saskatoon at Laura Balas lovely St. Andrew's suite. Although our numbers of women for our meeting was low, we shared wonderful food and conversation and did the business of COG. There are a number of items from that meeting that I bring to you in this letter.

Mary McFarlane-Sefton wrote an article on the 25th Anniversary of the Saskatchewan Feminist Network for Making Waves Magazine. Hopefully there will be some issues of the magazine at the November Event. If you have access to Making Waves, Mary's article should be in the last issue.

The November Event Planning Team reported that several plans around the event have changed for a variety of reasons. However, the event will go on and the theme Third Wave Feminism sounds exciting and the plans for the time at the event will be meaningful. The deadline for letting Calling Lakes Center know the numbers who will be attending the event is October 15. The Planning Team is urging women to register before the October 15th deadline.

There were concerns expressed to COG regarding childcare onsite at our November Events. There will be a process provided at the gathering this year to discuss the issue of child care onsite.

In the spring letter to the network, we mentioned that a letter of concern sent to the RCMP regarding the officer who continued duty after the charge of solicitation had been laid. COG received a letter about the removing the officer before the trial saying that he is under close surveillance and that he is being treated as any other citizen before being indicted of the crime. The tone of the letter was respectful.

We also know that barb janes father Dave Janes died due to complications after surgery.

Virginia Sisson continues her struggle with cancer. At present she is at home with her partner Gary who is able to take care of her.

To these women we of this Network offer our good energies and strength to face whatever it is that happens in these times.

There may be other women, too who need our care and concern. Blessings to those women for healing and courage.

We continue to need members on COG. Laura Balas has asked a number of women if they would be interested in filling the one year position and the ongoing position. At this time no one has indicated an affirmative but we have two who are thinking about it. If you or someone you know has an interest in being part of this work, do be in touch with any one of us.

I leave you with a quote from a former COG member,

COG has been a place where I have been abled and encouraged
to find this life in all its aches and beauties worth living.
May you all do the same wherever you are.
